Stripe Connect Setup

ExpertMD uses Stripe Connect to handle payment processing and payouts. Before you can create invoices and receive payments, you must set up a Stripe Connect account linked to your ExpertMD profile.

Prerequisites

Before setting up Stripe Connect, make sure you have:
  • A completed ExpertMD profile (all required fields filled in)
  • A bank account or debit card for receiving payouts
  • Government-issued photo ID for identity verification
  • Your Social Security number or EIN (for tax reporting)

Setting up Stripe Connect

Navigate to Billing

Click Billing in the left sidebar to open the billing page.

Click Connect with Stripe

Click the Connect with Stripe button. You will be redirected to Stripe’s onboarding flow.

Complete Stripe onboarding

Stripe will ask for:
  • Business type — Select Individual or Sole Proprietor (unless you operate as a business entity)
  • Personal information — Legal name, date of birth, last 4 of SSN
  • Address — Your business or personal address
  • Bank account — Routing and account number for receiving payouts
  • Identity verification — Upload a photo of your government-issued ID

Return to ExpertMD

After completing Stripe’s onboarding, you are redirected back to ExpertMD. Your Stripe Connect account is now linked and you can begin creating invoices.
The Stripe onboarding process typically takes 5-10 minutes. Once completed, your account may take 1-2 business days for full verification. You can create invoices immediately, but payouts will not begin until verification is complete.

Verifying your Stripe account

After initial setup, Stripe may request additional verification. Check your Stripe dashboard for any pending requirements:
  • Additional identity documents
  • Address verification
  • Bank account verification (Stripe may make small test deposits)
If your Stripe account verification is not completed within 30 days, your ability to accept payments may be restricted. Complete all verification steps promptly.

Updating your Stripe account

To update your bank account, address, or other Stripe information:
  1. Go to Billing in ExpertMD
  2. Click Go to Stripe Dashboard
  3. Update your information directly in Stripe’s dashboard
Changes to your Stripe account (such as updating your bank account) take effect immediately for future payouts.

Troubleshooting

I cannot complete Stripe onboarding

  • Ensure your browser allows pop-ups from stripe.com
  • Try using Chrome or Firefox in a non-incognito window
  • Clear your browser cache and try again

My Stripe account is restricted

  • Log in to your Stripe dashboard to see specific action items
  • Complete any pending identity or document verification
  • Contact Stripe support if the restriction seems incorrect

Payouts are not arriving

  • Verify your bank account details are correct in Stripe
  • Check if there are pending verification requirements
  • New accounts have a 7-14 day initial payout delay
