Attorney Dashboard Overview

Your dashboard is the central hub of your ExpertMD experience as an attorney. It provides an overview of your active cases, pending intake requests, outstanding invoices, and key metrics. This guide walks you through every section of the dashboard.

Accessing the dashboard

After signing in, you land on your dashboard by default. You can return to it at any time by clicking Dashboard in the left sidebar navigation.

Stats cards

At the top of your dashboard, a row of summary stats cards gives you an instant snapshot of your activity:

Active Cases

The number of cases currently in progress with medical experts. Click to navigate to your cases list.

Pending Requests

Intake requests you have submitted that are awaiting a doctor’s response. Click to view the requests page.

Unpaid Invoices

Invoices from doctors that you have not yet paid. Click to view your invoices list.

Total Spent

Your total spending across all paid invoices on the platform.
Each stats card is clickable and takes you directly to the relevant section of the platform.

Notification center

The notification bell in the top navigation bar shows a badge count of unread notifications. Click it to open the notification panel, which displays recent activity:
  • Request accepted/rejected — A doctor has responded to your intake request
  • New invoice — A doctor has sent you an invoice for a case
  • Payment reminders — Reminders for outstanding invoices
  • Case updates — New documents uploaded, appointments scheduled, or notes added to a case
  • Team activity — Team member actions and case collaborator updates
Enable email notifications in Settings > Notifications to receive alerts for important events even when you are not logged in to ExpertMD.

Managing notifications

Click on any notification to navigate directly to the relevant page (e.g., clicking an invoice notification takes you to that invoice). Notifications can be marked as read individually or all at once using the Mark All Read button.

Charts and analytics

Your dashboard includes visual charts that help you track your spending and case activity over time.

Spending chart

Spending chart with time period filters
A line chart showing your invoice payments over the selected time period:
  • Last 7 days — Daily spending for the past week
  • Last 30 days — Daily spending for the past month
  • Last 12 months — Monthly spending for the past year
Hover over any data point to see the exact amount for that period. This helps you track your expert witness costs against your case budgets.

Case activity chart

A bar chart showing case-related activity, including:
  • New cases started
  • Cases completed
  • Intake requests submitted
This helps you understand your engagement patterns with medical experts.

Spending by case type

A breakdown of your spending organized by case type (e.g., personal injury, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation). This helps you identify which types of cases are generating the most expert witness costs.

Referral card

If you are enrolled in the referral program, a referral card appears on your dashboard showing:
  • Your referral link — A unique URL you can share with colleagues
  • Total referrals — How many people have signed up using your link
  • Earnings from referrals — Total platform fee commissions earned
  • Copy link button — One-click copy of your referral URL
The referral program pays you 25% of the platform fees generated by each person you refer, for 12 months from their sign-up date. This applies to both doctor and attorney referrals. See the Referral Program guide for full details.

Below the stats cards, quick action buttons provide shortcuts to common tasks:

The left sidebar provides access to all major sections of the platform:
  • Dashboard — The main overview page (you are here)
  • Intake Requests — View and manage your submitted intake requests
  • Cases & Records — Your full list of active, completed, and archived cases
  • Invoices — All invoices you have received from doctors
  • Settings — Profile, encryption, team members, and account settings

Collapsible sidebar

On smaller screens or if you prefer more workspace, click the hamburger menu icon at the top of the sidebar to collapse it into icon-only mode.

Dashboard best practices

Check your dashboard daily

Review your dashboard each morning for new notifications, unpaid invoices, and updates on your intake requests.

Pay invoices promptly

Prompt payment builds a good relationship with your medical experts and ensures they prioritize your cases.

Track spending by case

Use the spending charts to monitor your expert witness costs and ensure they align with your case budgets.

Follow up on pending requests

If an intake request has been pending for several days, consider reaching out to the doctor directly or submitting a request to another expert.

Troubleshooting

Stats cards show zero

This is normal for new accounts. As you submit intake requests, start cases, and receive invoices, these numbers will populate automatically.

Charts are not loading

  • Ensure your browser supports modern JavaScript (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
  • Disable ad blockers or privacy extensions that may block chart rendering libraries
  • Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache

Notifications are not appearing

  • Check Settings > Notifications to ensure notifications are enabled
  • Verify that your browser allows notifications from expertmd.io
  • Check your email spam folder if you are missing email notifications
